Welcome to this week’s rundown on Walt Disney World news. Last week was pretty busy at Walt Disney World!

24-Hour Disney Day

Walt Disney World’s highlight last week was the 24-hour Disney Day at the Magic Kingdom. From 6 a.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday, the Magic Kingdom celebrated the beginning of the “Coolest Summer Ever” at WDW. Tens of thousands of people hit the parks at all hours of the day and for those of us who could not be there, Disney Parks Blog hosted a live stream of the event.

I planned what I thought would be a fun 24-Hour Disney day, even though I wasn’t there.

Man fished out of Bay Lake, then arrested

Disney marine officials rescued a guest from Bay Lake last week. The Orlando Sentinel shares how the Ohio man wound up there and what happened before and after the rescue. It’s quite the tale!

Sour on Selfie Sticks

Taking selfies continue to be all the rage, especially around the Walt Disney World theme parks. But, selfie sticks are starting to wear out their welcome, it seems. Last week, park officials began cracking down on guests using selfie sticks on rides like Big Thunder Mountain in the Magic Kingdom. Is a ban the next step? Time will tell!

Living within Walt Disney World?

Would you want to live in town right in the middle of Walt Disney World? Check out this story about Bay Lake, one of two Disney “company towns” on property. It’s an interesting read.

Raglan Road Master Chef Competition

The Disney Food Blog posted a story from Ireland about the upcoming Raglan Road Master Chef Competition. Find out how five finalists are preparing to showcase their finest culinary skills to win this major competition!

Live-action Tinker Bell coming to silver screen

Another live-action version of a Disney classic is on its way to the big screen. Reese Witherspoon will take on the role of Tinker Bell in the latest in a line of the updated classic films including Maleficent, Cinderella and the now filming Beauty and the Beast to name a few. Many thanks to The Dis for the latest on this new project!

Learn about parks’ crowds and wait times

Finally, there are a series of posts from TouringPlans.com about crowd numbers and wait times you should check out as you’re looking to plan your next trip. First, a quick update about changes to the crowd levels for May 2015-May 2016. Next, hop over and take a look at How Crowd Levels Affect Wait Times by the amazing Laurel Stewart. Lots of data with this one and Laurel manages to make it relatively easy to understand even for someone like me who’s not that into numbers! Read about How Often Disney World Changes Its Hours. It’s a lot more than you think!

That’s it for this week’s collection of “must reads”!  I will pick this up again on June 7 after I return from Walt Disney World!
